Arlan Engineering Ltd

History of Arlan

Arlan Engineering Ltd. was established in 1978 by Paul McQuillan and Rod Batchelar as a light engineering company specializing in stainless steel fabrication.

We began in a small 100 square metre lockup and within a short time moved to a 300 square metre unit within our current premises.

As the company expanded and space became available within the complex we moved in to eventually utilize the whole 1000 square metres of building which the company subsequently purchased. The company also purchased a neighbouring building and now has a total floor area of 1300 square metres.

In the early years the company mainly serviced the extensive textile and manufacturing industries which existed in Levin at the time both manufacturing and servicing plant and machinery.

As the local market decreased due the demise of the textile industry we moved more into commercial and architectural metalwork covering the lower North Island.

In the 1980’s commercial projects in Wellington boomed and at times we had around 16 staff members.

Major projects from this time included the Wellington City Library and Civic Square redevelopment, Majestic Tower, Te Papa and Wellington Airport Terminal and many other large scale commercial projects. We have since been involved in the construction of ‘The Rock’ at Wellington Airport and will be involved with the extension of the airport terminal in 2015.

During this time we have been involved in the construction and upgrading of numerous supermarkets and fast food outlets throughout the lower North Island.

In the past 10 years we have been involved in the manufacture and supply of equipment for the oil industry throughout New Zealand and Australia.

From day one Arlan Engineering has been progressive and purchased modern machinery to keep us up to date or ahead of our competitors.

Rod Batchelar retired in early 2011 and the company is now family owned bringing Brendan McQuillan into the company to enable the second generation to carry us into the future.
